NOMINATIONS NOW OPEN FOR

LEGISLATIVE YOUTH ADVISORY COUNCIL LEADERSHIP AWARD

The La. Legislative Youth Advisory Council (LYAC) is seeking to publicly honor some of the state's great young leaders. Nomination forms are now available for the youth council's second year of Leadership Awards. The award was designed by members of the council to recognize youth leaders who serve as a positive example to other young people, achieve a significant civic accomplishment at school or in the community, demonstrate outstanding youth leadership, and promote responsible citizenship. The award is a unique peer-to-peer honor, whereby certificates of recognition will be presented by the youth of LYAC to a young leader from each congressional district in the state and one statewide winner.

Nominees must be between 14 and 19 years of age and be a Louisiana resident. Anyone, except a LYAC member or his/her immediate family, may nominate a teen. At least one but no more than two letters of recommendation from someone other than the nominator must accompany the letter of nomination.

Nomination forms are available online at http://civiced.louisiana.gov. The deadline for nominating a teen is February 29, 2012.

The 21-member Legislative Youth Advisory Council was created in 2007 to facilitate communication between young people and the legislature on issues of importance to youth and to give students a unique opportunity to be involved in the workings of government.
